Life in the West End

#1 - Early evening at Cardero Grocery located between Pendrell and Comox. Built 1912.
#2 - Barclay Grocery at twilight, located at Barclay and Nicola with Fire Hall #6 in the background. Built 1918.
#3 - An afternoon wedding at Roedde house on Barclay. One of many functions occurring on the premises during the course of a year.

#4 - Wind surfing off the beach at English Bay.
#5 - A weekend wedding reception at Roedde House.
#6 - "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte". With apologies to Monsieur Seurat this is actually "A Sunday at English Bay".

#7 - It's the sun, it's the wind, it's the colour, it's the beach at English Bay.
#8 - Rolling along Beach Avenue. This photo was taken at the location where legendary Joe Forte's cabin would have been 80-100 years ago (1700 Beach Avenue).
#9 - The "Raincity Grill" restaurant on Denman at English Bay, an experience in fine dining.

#10 - "Inukshuk" welcomes visitors to English Bay.
#11 - Overlooking English Bay at twilight from atop the English Bay Bath House.
#12 - The Barclay Grocery's neon sign offers a splash of colour during the evening.

#13 - A focal point of entertainment since 1914, this is the bandstand at Alexandra Park on a winter afternoon. It is the only survivor of seven bandstands of the era that once graced city parks.
#14 - The majestic, golden Kensington,over the years home to many eminent Vancouverites, overlooks Sunset Beach.
#15 - "All creatures great and small", part of an art exhibition at English Bay.

#16 - Winter on Barclay Street and a grocery that has seen a few of them.
#17 - Fountain in Alexandra Park in memory of Joe Fortes, English Bay's swim teacher, lifeguard, constable and possibly the West End's best Known resident from the 1890s to 1922. "For many years guardian of the beach. Little children loved him".
#18 - "Moon over the West End". Looking north across English Bay. The Sylvia can be seen on the left and the Kensington on the right, both sharing space with characteristec highrises.
