The area that is the subject of this page is considered to be part of downtown Vancouver. The nature of the issue however goes beyond physical borders and touches on history, heritage, architecture, culture and society. Many perspectives and conflicting interests are at work here and how they are resolved will provide insight into the priorities of the stakeholders involved.
Specifically we are concerned with the area bordered by Nelson(north) Helmcken(south) Seymour(west) and Richards(east). Within a block of this area are found the only (with 2 or 3 exceptions) remaining houses, as opposed to buildings, in the downtown core. Their conditions are remarkably good, they are all occupied and seem to function at a practical level. The problem however is that no area within the downtown core is under so much development pressure as evidenced by the construction, planned construction and new projects that have been completed in just the last few months. The purpose of this page is to make sure that as many individuals as possible are aware of what is at stake here. What eventually may or may not happen could be affected by the knowledge and information that this page may impart.
The images speak for themselves. These houses have played roles few of us can imagine. They are the survivors. What will be their reward.
