This collection of images is of those structures that have redevelopment indicators on the property such as FOR SALE signs or applications for rezoning. What actually may happen and when may or may not be known or the information may or may not be correct intentionally or not because of the sensitive nature of, and/or the wish to avoid publicity related to the destruction of what can be considered to be of heritage value, by significant numbers of individuals, that is not being protected actively by bureaucracies for any number of reasons. These reasons usually include by-laws which are based on incomplete heritage inventories, redevelopment proposals that are dropped or altered giving time the opportunity to apply its natural tendency to destroy that which is not actively protected, by-laws that give not enough incentive to preserve and/or the lack of resources and budgets for the departments involved to do an adequate job. This page will attempt to indicate which of our 200 or so older structures in the West End are under direct threat of disappearing.
What is amazing about this listing is that all of these locations are on Bidwell. Two each at both ends of the street, north and south. What a unfortunate coincidence.
